2 Thessalonians 2:9-10 (NIV): The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie, and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.
I share a quote: “I have lived, Sir, a long time and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth — that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without his aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the sacred writings that ‘except the Lord build they labor in vain that build it.’ I firmly believe this.”
I believe that these are wise words, yet our national identity has moved far from what our founding fathers believed. As I look back on much of what I was taught growing up, I now believe that there was a re-writing of history. Yet, what happened in history is what happened. It cannot change. Only the telling of history can be altered to fit more contemporary agendas.
The above quote is from Benjamin Franklin. I was taught that he was very far from God. The above quote comes from a speech Franklin gave to the Constitutional Convention on June 28, 1787. He may not have embraced following Jesus the way I do, but it is very clear to me that he did honor the God of the Bible. Wow. Truth matters, and I didn’t know it.
The above verses from the second letter to the Thessalonians share the strategy of Satan. He tells lies. He deceives those who are perishing. And the world is now full of those who refuse to love the truth, and so be saved.
So, for me, I seek the truth. I seek the absolutes. I seek to base my life on the eternal. I choose to embrace the God of the Bible who doesn’t change and whose word can be depended upon.
I’ll say it again. Truth matters. Dare I say it… “I love the truth.”
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I see the evidence of Satan’s strategy filling the whole world with lies. YOU ARE TRUTH! The only way forward is for me to live according to Your truth. I resist the father of lies, and I submit to You.
