Prosperity and Success

Joshua 1:8 (NIV):  Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

Our society places a lot of emphasis on success. I know that I have certainly embraced the whole idea. I want to be successful. I want to be prosperous. At this point in my life, I feel that I have been blessed to achieve a certain level of both. I live in a beautiful home on beautiful property. I have a beautiful wife who loves me and adult children who communicate with me and love me as well.

I would love for everyone I know to be prosperous and successful.

The above verse is part of God’s initial words to Joshua. Joshua was getting ready to lead the nation of Israel on military campaigns to occupy the land promised to Abraham. Military commanders want success. Joshua was promised by God that he would be successful.

It seems that these terms can apply to many things. I believe that best way of thinking about prosperity and success is that it is having a life purpose aligned with God. I desire that for everyone.

God promised Joshua success, BUT… there was a condition for Joshua. Sometimes I like to ignore the conditions. You know… the IF part of an IF THEN statement. For Joshua, God wanted him to embrace the “Book of the Law” by speaking it and meditating on it day and night. For me, I believe that this IF THEN still applies. IF I really embrace God’s Word, THEN I will have prosperity and success.

I don’t ever want to expect automatic blessings from God simply because I’ve given verbal affirmation of my love for Him. I want to actually demonstrate my love by speaking and meditating on His word, trusting Him, and obeying Him.

Prayer: Father, I feel so blessed with the prosperity and success that You have given me. May I continue to follow You by continually reading, meditating on, and trusting Your word. I desire that my life purpose be aligned with You.
