2 John 1:4 (NIV): It has given me great joy to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as the Father commanded us.
I served in the military for 30 years. Three of my children also served. We have a picture of the four of us all wearing our uniforms during a time that we were all serving. It was an honor to serve, but an even more amazing honor to serve with my children. I even have memories of being in Iraq and Afghanistan with my children.
I guess my father felt the same about me. My father served in three branches of the military, Navy, Air Force, and Army. I served in two, Air Force and Army. My father passed on a military mindset that I in turn passed on to my children.
Serving in the military is one thing. Passing on the joy of following Jesus is another. I believe that the Apostle John was very excited about knowing that people he had influenced to follow Jesus had in turn influenced others. The children, the spiritual offspring, were “walking in the truth.”
Truth matters. Truth may be under attack right now, but it still matters. I find the truth in God’s word. I find truth in following Jesus.
Regarding the most important path of following Jesus, I had a grandson in Texas that was baptized this past Sunday. Wow. He is now taking his own steps of walking in the truth.
May I always remember that the most important thing that I do is passing on the truth of following Jesus.
Prayer: Dear God, every day may I have divine appointments with my family, with my friends, and with others to have the privilege of passing on Your truth.
