Pray without ceasing
–1 Thessalonians 5:17 (ESV)
When I spent a year in South Korea almost 30 years ago Debbie and I chose to budget $200 each month so that we could talk on the phone for 30 minutes once a week. Many thought that was extravagant. We never did.
Communication is important to healthy relationships. More recently, when I was deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan, I carried a cell phone and was able to talk with Debbie every day, at no additional cost! I love so many of the technological improvements that have happened during my lifetime.
Debbie and I now feel blessed to be able to talk or text or FaceTime pretty much any time we are apart. I even get to see and talk with my Mom in Texas (especially on Mother’s Day!).
I’ll say it again: Communication is important to healthy relationships.
Communicating with God is important to a healthy relationship with Him. I do that through prayer.
Praying without ceasing sounds impossible. Yet, Paul said to do it. I have periods of intentional prayer during the day. I also, perhaps even more importantly, always have my communication open with God.
I talk with God and people don’t even know that I am doing it. I talk with God in my thoughts all the time. I see something interesting, I talk with God. I see a need, I talk with God. I share everything!
I pray without ceasing! The communication lines are always open with no interference. God is always there.
Prayer: Almighty God, I cannot imagine not being able to talk with You. You are my strength. Thank You that my communication with You never ceases!
