Genesis 1:27 (ESV): So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
When God, as the Creator, is ignored, rebelled against, or discounted as a lie, then anything goes. I really want that to sink in. I believe that statement.
There are two fundamental world views. One is a materialistic, non-theistic world view. In this world view I would include all atheists and agnostics. Practically, I also include all who say they “believe” in God, yet there is no evidence that they are actually following God. In other words they are people who ignore God or rebel against Him.
The other world view is the theistic world view. For me, in considering theistic options, it is all about Jesus. I believe there is overwhelming evidence for His resurrection. I made my decision to follow Jesus based on His love for me when He died on the cross for my sins and also on the proof that He came back to life.
It is important to me to embrace truth based on Jesus. Since Jesus quoted and affirmed the Old Testament, I embrace the truth found there. That includes the first chapter of Genesis where we find the above verse. Jesus referred to this specific verse in Matthew 19, affirming marriage as being between a man and a woman.
Lies are prevalent in our culture. Our culture is not the first to perpetuate non-truths. When Paul was in Ephesus the city clerk stated that the image of Artemis falling from heaven was an “undeniable” fact! (see Acts 19:35-36). Today, so many proclaim lies as truth and truth as lies. It is confusing. It is important to me to embrace truth as found in Jesus.
I believe it is time to wake up out of wokeness. My commitments to the sacredness of life, biblical marriage, and biblical sexuality stem from how I follow Jesus.
Prayer: Father, forgive me. Forgive me for not standing firm in Your truth. Forgive me for compromising with, or perhaps ignoring, the lies that are perpetuated in our culture. As I stand firm on Your truth, may I take action with Your grace in loving others.
