Honoring God Initiative

The Honoring God Initiative is part of The Church Ambassador Network’s unique approach to elections. Our goal with this initiative is to help pastors and Churches equip their congregation to view government through the lens of the Scripture, rather than through the lens of partisan politics. The initiative uses upcoming elections to renew the minds of Christians in how God views government. The main resource for the initiative is the Scriptures themselves.

The Honoring God Initiative is non-partisan. This means its purpose is not to further any candidate or political party. It is very important that you, your team, your organization, and others you interact with understand this. It is also important that it is regularly communicated with pastors.

Here is a plan for building the Honoring God Initiative:

1. Identify who needs to be contacted.

Use your Church Ambassador Network database. See the paragraph “Build a Database” in Section “III. Building the Network.”

2. Build relationships with the Secretary of State’s office or Commissioner of Elections.

Provide information on your intentions to help the Church in encouraging members to vote. See where they can help.

3. Develop materials.

  • Create a compelling 1-minute video to be played in Churches.
  • Use video content to create 60, 30, and 15 second ads.
  • Create a bulletin insert with biblical reasons to vote as well as general voter information on where and how to vote.
  • Create 5-10 minute videos encouraging pastors to engage in that year’s elections by using Scripture.
  • Develop a website that houses all the information.

4. Begin regular email communications with pastors.

  • Start with emails building the case why the Church should speak to the election.
  • Switch to emails on how, giving them practical ideas and tools.
  • We then invite pastors to consider doing some or all three of the following:
    • Use the bulletin insert at services before election. (Top Priority)
    • Say a few words from the pulpit on the biblical importance of voting.
    • Show 1-minute video at service.
  • See the sample email on pages 100-101 of the appendix.

5. Contract pastors for pastor to pastor calls.

  • Hire pastors from key denominations that need to get contacted.
    • Assign them a list to call.
    • Have them encourage pastors from their denomination to use any or all tools.

6. Contact Churches.

  • Present at ministerial/evangelical associations.
  • Have hired pastors and any other Church Ambassador Network team members begin to make phone calls.
  • Ask if Churches have heard about Honoring God Initiative.
  • See if the Church is willing to do any of the three following things:
    • Use bulletin insert at services before election. (Top Priority)
    • Say a few words from the pulpit on the biblical importance of voting.
    • Show 1-minute video at service.
