Hope

Titus 2:13 (NIV):  looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus”

This current earth is not my eternal home. During this season of advent, I have a hope that transcends this temporary existence.

Now that we are in the last month of this most interesting year, I believe that I join many others in hoping that 2021 will be an improvement on 2020. Still, as I ponder the temporariness of 2020, I realize that 2021 could be an even more challenging year. My hope is not in what happens on this earth.

As I look at the above verse I embrace “the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus.” My hope is not in a vaccine. My hope is not in a large bank account. My hope is not in the number of “likes” I get on Facebook.

The verse prior to the above verse gives me guidance regarding what to do as I wait for the glory of Jesus. I should say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and I should live a self-controlled, upright and godly life in this present age. In other words, I should follow Jesus and love others the way He has loved me.

So, during this interesting season, I have hope. I hope you have hope too!

Prayer: Lord God, during this season of advent, may I model to others the hope I have in You. May I also be active, actively living the life that You have called me to live.
