His Banner Over Me is Love

“He brought me to the banqueting house,
and his banner over me was love.”

Song of Solomon 2:4 (ESV)

When I was in the military we had “Dining Ins” and “Dining Outs.” (I still struggle with the difference!). Today, many organizations have banquets and galas. My own organization had two!

Getting together over a meal can be a special time. It communicates more intimacy than just getting together to listen to a speaker. I think that is true even for small gatherings. Breaking bread together can also break down walls of separation.

The Song of Solomon is an intimate love story. When I read the words there are things I learn about my relationship with my wife. Having this book in the Bible shows me that God cares about every aspect of my life.

In the above verse there is a banquet, but it is more than that. A banner declares love for the woman. It is like the whole banquet is especially for her. I’m sure that she received the love that was proclaimed, making her realize just how special she was.

I believe that the Song of Solomon can also be interpreted as how God loves me. As I put myself at a banquet with a banner of love from God over me, I realize that I often fall short of really understanding just how much God loves me.

Wow. God has put together a special banquet for me and has declared His love for me on a banner seen by all.

Prayer: Heavenly Father. Your love for me amazes me. May I always embrace Your love for me, even when I don’t feel lovable. Thank you for demonstrating Your love for me by sending Jesus to be my Savior and Lord.
