Job 42:1-2 (NIV): Then Job replied to the Lord: “I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted.”
I am a planner. When I found out that a floating dock was needed to hold a water pump for a sprinkler system I wanted, I began planning. I looked up how to build a floating dock on YouTube. I found someone who had built a 10’ x 10’ dock and I made my modifications to turn it into a 16’ x 16’ floating dock. We built it, attached 24 plastic 55-gallon drums, transported it to our pond and flipped it over into the pond. This past weekend we had a party and there were 10 people on the dock fishing all at once. Today, the sprinkler system guys put the water pump on. I love it when a plan comes together.
Not all of my plans have worked out. A few years ago, I tried to build a temporary shelter out of PVC pipe and tarps to protect my tractor. That effort was a big time failure when the pipes all broke at the same time. That time my plans were thwarted.
God has been moving and shaking since He created the world. Since no one was around when God did it, and He is incomprehensible in so many ways, many people don’t follow Him. They ignore Him, rebel against Him, or even create their own god to replace Him.
Still, God continues to unfold history. Job had it figured out. In the above verses Job declares God to be all powerful, stating that His plans and purposes cannot be thwarted. Unlike my plans, God’s plans always work. I want to align with His plans and purposes. If I don’t, I will end up on the wrong side of eternity.
Prayer: My God, I declare with Job that You can do all things. The most amazing thing You did was to send Your Son, Jesus, to take my deserved punishment for sin and then prove Who He is by coming back to life. I choose Jesus. I choose to follow You and embrace Your plans and purposes.
