Does God Fit in a Box?

For the earth will be filled
with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord
as the waters cover the sea.

–Habakkuk 2:14 (ESV)

It feels really good to be in control of things. Five years ago I had all the parts to my barn delivered to the property where we now live. I joke and say that it was the biggest IKEA project I have ever taken on. It was a barn in a box.

When we completed the 32 foot by 56 foot barn, it was quite the accomplishment. We then lived in the barn for over six months, but that is another story.

When I think about my life it is easy to think that I know a lot. But then I read what Habakkuk says about God. God’s knowledge and glory are beyond measure.

Habakkuk compares it to the waters of the sea. I just learned that humans don’t know much about our oceans and seas, yet God’s knowledge and glory fills every part of them.

I read the Bible cover-to-cover every year now. I pursue knowing God, yet I continue to learn more and more. It is easy to think that I know God fully. I don’t… not even close. If I think I have God figured out, I would be putting God in a box, thinking that I have Him all figured out.

I have become very comfortable with knowing that I don’t know everything, especially about God. God knows me, but I cannot fully know God. God is incomprehensible. I am good with that.

Prayer: Almighty God, You are beyond my comprehension. I am limited. You are not. I am amazed that You, as my Creator, love me. You sent Your Son to take on my punishment and have forgiven me. Your knowledge and glory are beyond measure.
